Federal Government Approves N500bn Emergency Security Fund to Tackle Rising Bandit Attacks
The Federal Government has approved an emergency security intervention fund of N500 billion aimed at strengthening Nigeriaâs response to escalating bandit attacks and other violent crimes across affected regions.
According to official sources, the special fund is designed to boost military operations, improve intelligence gathering, enhance rapid response capabilities, and support ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in vulnerable states, particularly in the North-West and North-Central zones where insecurity has intensified in recent months.
Security analysts say the move reflects growing concern over repeated kidnappings, rural community raids, and attacks on highways by armed groups, which have displaced thousands and disrupted economic activities in several parts of the country.
Government officials explained that the funding will be deployed across multiple security agencies, including the Armed Forces, police tactical units, and intelligence services, to ensure a coordinated and intelligence-driven approach to combating banditry and terrorism.
The initiative is also expected to support surveillance technology upgrades, logistics for frontline troops, and community-based security partnerships aimed at improving early warning systems.
Authorities emphasized that the emergency package is part of broader national security reforms targeted at restoring stability, protecting rural communities, and reinforcing public confidence in government security architecture.
Citizens have been urged to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information to help curb criminal activities and improve response effectiveness nationwide.
